da dobrowin: Sunderland just about got over the line away at Everton to secure their passage through to the next round of the FA Cup.

da realbet: The Hill Dickinson Stadium was the stage for an enthralling Cup clash, with the Black Cats finally winning the tie after a late James Garner equaliser in normal time, due to the penalty-saving heroics of Robin Roefs.

Sunderland ultimately had their goalkeeper to thank for the 3-0 success during the dramatic shootout, with the Black Cats attackers notching up 18 shots on the Toffees’ goal during the rest of the 120 minutes, only to put away one opportunity.

This could see Regis Le Bris dive into the transfer market for some reinforcements up top, as a former Premier League centre-forward appears on their shopping list.

Sunderland could sign new striker

Against the Toffees, Enzo Le Fee put away the only strike of the day from a Sunderland perspective, as he immediately bounced back from his terrible penalty miss away at Brentford.

Still, Le Bris will want his team to be more clinical in front of goal as they attempt to keep their dream Premier League season ticking away, with previous rumours suggesting that AS Roma striker Artem Dovbyk had been offered to the Wearside giants.

Alongside Dovbyk’s name being uttered, TEAMtalk are now reporting that the Premier League overachievers have held talks over signing Tammy Abraham. They are among many other parties to have done so.

Indeed, the report states that Roma – who are Abraham’s parent club – are willing to allow the former Chelsea striker a path back to England this month, with an extensive list of clubs offered the £11m-rated marksman’s services, including six Premier League outfits including Aston Villa, Leeds and Le Bris’ side.

It remains to be seen whether Sunderland will be successful in another audacious transfer pursuit, having stunned those looking on last summer when signing a player of the calibre of Granit Xhaka.

Why Abraham would be a big upgrade on Isidor

If they do win his services, Le Bris would pick up an instant upgrade on a declining Wilson Isidor, who is struggling to set the Premier League alight after his 13 goals last season in Championship action.

Isidor also started the brand-new season like a runaway train, having bagged an impressive four league strikes across Sunderland’s first nine games back in the daunting division.

But his form hasn’t quite been at these red-hot levels for a while, with his last Premier League goal falling all the way back in October.

As journalist Michael Potts has put it, Isidor is a forward presence who is guilty of drifting “in and out of form”, despite being largely loved at the Stadium of Light, with Le Bris now eyeing up a more reliable source of goals at the very top in Abraham.

Clearly, Sunderland’s interest in the 11-time England international has been piqued by his exploits out in Turkey this season, with Abraham powering home three more league goals for Beskitas than the hit-and-miss Frenchman.

Of course, the argument here would be that the Super Lig is a far weaker beast than the gruelling Premier League.

Yet, the 6-foot-3 striker has also earned his stripes in the English top-flight previously with both Chelsea and Swansea City, seen in him collecting 26 Premier League strikes plying his trade in Wales and in West London.

Additionally, his goalscoring prowess has stretched to Italy, where he has 29 goals under his belt in Serie A, with Chelsea legend John Terry more than justified in his claims to laud the towering attacker as an “incredible” finisher.

Roma striker Tammy Abraham

Further noted as being a “handful” for defenders to thwart by his ex-Blues boss Frank Lampard, Abraham would have no qualms in filling in for Isidor as a powerful, yet skilful presence leading the line.

The 25-year-old could also be spurred on to return to his electifying best if competition heats up in the forward positions, as Le Bris seeks out some bold January signings that make his side an even trickier animal to contain.
